Marathon Makeover – My Motivations this week of pre-training

OK! I have completed my first week of training with Marathon Makeover (MM). I did not miss a day. My wife, who is doing MM with me, also completed her first week without missing a day. For us, it got easier each day. And today was so easy it was like I didn’t do anything at all (Gotta love “Rest Day” Fridays).  I am sure there will not be many days and weeks that are not very difficult. Thank God for a relatively smooth first week. Part of my motivation is that I assume Mark and/Robin will ask us tomorrow if we completed our first week without missing a day and I wanted to be one of those that can honestly say I did it! But that is really only a small part. My other motivations are:

  1. My wife. I do not want to disappoint her. I want her to see that I am willing to make changes that will improve our lives even if they are hard. I also want to be her encourager, and I cannot do that from a chair (I don’t actually sit on the couch much).
  2. My daughters. My two oldest daughters live in Starkville and attend MS State. They text me and ask how I am doing with my “runs” (really walks, but Mark Simpson said I could call anything that was forward motion a run. So I will take him up on that.) My youngest daughter still lives at home and she has even gone on our “Runs” with us. She actually ran some.
  3. Our pomeranian, Cappy. Cappy went on a couple of our runs also. The first time he came with us, I held his leash and thanks to his “encouraging tug”, I went further in 30 minutes than any other day of the week. He thinks I am too slow. He looks forward to the day when I can actually run.
  4. And of course, all the folks on the Marathon Makover Community Site. I read their posts – theirfrustrations, theirvictories, theirfun, theirstruggles. I feel a connection that comes from shared experiences. I look forward to meeting some of these folks in person.
